GEEWHEZ , the acronym of “Management and Leisure Middleware for Theme Parks and zoos” is a new multipurpose platform specifically designed to SMEs that have visitors as main business activity. GEEWHEZ platform aims to deal with basic aspects of resource management tools (e.g. finances) and a number of new applications of interest for the management of Theme and Animal (zoos and aquaria) Parks. The platform provides a global solution for the management of a Theme or Zoo Park. Therefore, among other applications, GEEWHEZ is designed to control the quality of physic-chemical parameters of water in exhibition pools (such as common aquaria), a surveillance system to control the behavior of visitors during their stay at the Park, the behavior of animals or the detection of escapes especially during the night and finally, a leisure middleware system to provide new services to increase visitors´ interest during their stay at the Park.

GEEWHEZ is organized as a Consortium where a number of RTPs, specialized on software development, provide technical solutions to the platform taking into account Zoo Park requirements according to their diary activity. RTPs have a multidisciplinary area of expertise according to the proposed applications (see above) and are settled in Italy (Matematici, T-connect, Prominent), Spain (FAICO, Universidad Carlos III and Pentos), Chipre (Technovation solutions) and Germany (Gamma Solutions). The Zoo Parks involved in the Consortium are very well-known SMEs settled in Italy (ZooMarine), Germany (Nuremberg) and Spain (ZooBotánico Jerez). The heterogeneity of members at the Consortium is a guarantee that the platform will be useful for many different Theme and Zoo Parks.

The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme managed by REA-Research Executive Agency (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement n° 286533”. ZooMarine is the Project leader.
